Door-to-door visits Saturday for budget presentation

SILVER CREEK - The Silver Creek Central School Board of Education will be meeting at Aunt Millie's Restaurant on Saturday, May 16 at 9 a.m. for a brief workshop. After the workshop, they will be going door-to-door throughout the school district to answer any questions residents may have regarding the upcoming budget vote on May 19.

Going dry

City of Dunkirk Public Works water maintenance crews will be repairing a water main in the town of Pomfret this morning. Residents from Wilbur Road West to the town of Pomfret will have no water from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Water tasting contest Saturday

Chautauqua County Public Health Director Christine Schuyler announced that the annual water tasting contest will be held at Chautauqua Mall on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Chautauqua County Health Department, Chautauqua County Water Works Association and Chautauqua County Water Quality Task Force. Its purpose is to call attention to the importance of our water resources and to recognize those men and women who work in the water industry.

This year's participants in the water tasting contest include the villages of Brocton, Fredonia, Mayville Sherman and cities of Dunkirk and Jamestown. The winner from this local competition will go on to compete against the winners from other New York counties to vie for the title of, "Best Tasting Water in New York State."

The public is encouraged to stop by the mall, sample each participant's water, and cast a vote for the best tasting water in Chautauqua County.

Spanos to be on Senior Report

MaryAnn Spanos will join Reed Powers on the weekly talk show Senior Report with Reed Powers on Saturday to discuss the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging.

The show will be live from 9-10 a.m. Saturday and be rerun daily at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 9 through Friday, May 15.

Call in at 753-5225 to discuss whatever you would like: a birthday, a salute or a thumbs down. Call-ins only accepted on Saturday, 9-10 a.m. All guests are subject to change.

Access Channel 5 is available on Time Warner Cable in Chautauqua, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman and Westfield.

Drivers beware

Given the rough winter the area had, most drivers are on the lookout for potholes. One place drivers should be particularly aware is at the Millard Fillmore Drive east entrance into the D & F Plaza. There is a cluster of the car-damaging holes waiting there to get unaware drivers.

St. Joseph's School collecting items for yard sale

GOWANDA - Cleaning out your attic, basement, garage or just the house in general? Want a suggestion for your unwanted items? St. Joseph's school is holding an indoor yard sale on Friday, May 15.
