Enid Borden to give keynote speech Wednesday at Chautauqua County Nutrition Summit
The president and chief executive officer of Meals on Wheels Association of America is coming to Chautauqua County this week to lead a discussion on issues of hunger and nutrition.
Enid Borden will address food and nutrition providers from Chautauqua County and Western New York at the "Imagine There's No Hunger in Chautauqua County" summit Wednesday. The event will be held at the Park United Methodist Church in Sinclairville.
The Chautauqua County Office for the Aging and the Chautauqua County Health Department, along with the Meals on Wheels organizations in the county, are sponsoring the event.
In addition to her participation in the summit on Wednesday, Borden will visit Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels Tuesday.
"She has always displayed genuine interest and concern for the smaller Meals on Wheels programs throughout America," said Joan Houck, executive director of Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels.
"Senior nutrition agencies are very fortunate to have the national Meals on Wheels office advocating on their behalf in Washington D.C. to keep politicians informed about senior nutrition programs and their role in assisting with the elimination of senior hunger in America," Houck said.
During her 17-year tenure at MOWAA, Borden has directed the day-to-day operations of the association and provided leadership to the organization during a period of significant growth and innovative partnership development.
She has held numerous public affairs and policy positions in the public sector, and has served on the faculty in the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies at Goucher College in Baltimore. She earned her bachelor's degree from Alfred University, and her master's degree from Adelphi University.
Her work has earned her recognition in Who's Who in the Media and Communications.
Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest organization in the United States representing those who provide meal services to people in need. The organization's mission is to provide visionary leadership and professional training and to develop partnerships that will ensure the provision of quality nutrition services to seniors in need.
The "Imagine There's No Hunger Task Force" began in Chautauqua County in 2007 after Meals on Wheels of the Jamestown Area received a grant from MOWAA to explore how organizations in Chautauqua County can better work together to feed individuals age 60 or over. The national grant focused on ways to "Imagine There's No Hunger" in our country, and to find ways for senior-oriented organizations to work together to better utilize money to feed seniors.
Now, the task force, which includes the Jamestown and Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels organizations, Sinclairville 76ers and Chautauqua County Office for the Aging, wants to expand the effort to include all age groups.
The summit will be held at the church, located at 49 Sinclair Drive in Sinclairville. The event will begin at 9:15 a.m. with registration, followed by an overview of the event with County Executive Greg Edwards and Dr. MaryAnn Spanos, director of the county's Office for the Aging. Borden will present the keynote speech.
Individuals interested in participating can still register for the event by calling the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging at 753-4471.
