Horace A. Pantano of Fredonia, NY died at the Chautauqua County Home on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, after a long illness.
He was the son of the late Nicholas and Petrina (Castilone) Pantano of Fredonia. A lifelong resident of Fredonia, Horace was active in the community through his business and church affiliations. He owned and operated Fredonia Sanitary Service, and Pantano Painting and Decorating and Industrial Vacuum Services.
Horace was a member of St. Anthony's Church where he served as a trustee of the parish as well an usher and a Knight of Columbus. He was active in the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society and was the local chairperson of the Large Gift Division of the annual Catholic Charities Appeal for many years. In 1994, Horace was bestowed the St. Joseph the Worker Layman's Award by Bishop Head for his
volunteer contributions at St. Anthony's.
In the community, Horace was a board member of the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, the Beaver Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose Club. He also sang in the Barbershop Chorus for many years and participated in the Chautauqua Italian American Organization.
Horace is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen (Acquavia) Pantano, his five children: Patricia Pantano (Greg) Nussbaum of Santa Cruz, NM; Dennis (Renee) Pantano of Sanford, FL; Marilyn Pantano (Gary) Reynolds of East Amherst, NY; Kathleen Pantano of Cleveland Heights, OH; Steven (Joanne) Pantano of Fredonia, NY. Other survivors include his brother, Guy (Cordelia) Patton of Silver Creek, NY, 7 Grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009, at St. Anthony's Church, Fredonia where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend C.J. Westfield, Pastor, Reverend Daniel P. Walsh and Reverend Monsignor Anthony Caligiuri.
Relatives and friends may call at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home at 82 East Main St., Fredonia, on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Sheridan, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Hospice Association of Chautauqua County or Camino de Paz School in Santa Cruz, NM would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be sent
