GOWANDA - A boil water advisory, implemented this past week following severe flooding throughout the region, is still on for the village of Gowanda.

On Sunday, a water ban, which had been in effect for Gowanda since Monday, Aug. 10, was lifted. However, a boil water advisory continues for all village water customers, and is expected to remain in effect for at least several more days, according to Trustee Dale DeCarlo, who also serves as fire commissioner for the village.

"It is still on for Gowanda," DeCarlo said Monday. "It has been since the flood started ... It's probably going to be okay in a couple of days, it's just they have to do required state tests and stuff like that."

Until the advisory is lifted, residents should continue to boil all water which may be ingested.

In addition, DeCarlo said similar advisories had been issued this past week for the towns of Collins and Perrysburg. However, Collins Supervisor Ken Martin said the boil water advisory for the township was lifted as of noon on Monday.

According to Perrysburg Supervisor Dennis Stopen, the town was never under a water ban or boil water advisory, explaining town water customers were asked to limit use while the sewage system was drained of flood water, in order to avoid overtaxing the system.

"There wasn't a boil water (advisory), it was just a limited-use restriction, and that's been temporarily lifted," he said, adding residents should continue to conserve water for the time being.
