Gowanda eases past Fredonia; Dunkirk falls

The Gowanda Lady Panthers (2-1, 3-1) only needed three games to down the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (1-2, 2-3) in CCAA Division 1 girls' volleyball.

The Lady Panthers combined for 14 assists, 18 kills, eight aces and eight blocks as they won 25-23, 25-15, 25-10.

Michelle Napierala provided four kills for Fredonia in the loss.

The Lady Hillbillies will play again on Wednesday at Olean.

The Allegany-Limestone Lady Gators (2-1, 2-4) won over the Dunkirk Lady Marauders (0-4, 0-2) in three sets, 25-8, 25-4, 25-8, Monday in Division 1 girls' volleyball.

Allegany-Limestone was led by the stellar all around play of Amanda Rousa, who had 25 points, 18 aces, six kills and seven assists. Kaitlin Martin provided 15 points, eight aces and seven kills while Brandy Brougham tallied four points, two aces, four kills and a dig. Sarah Levine added five points and an ace, a kill and a dig.

Dunkirk's Joyce Bomasuto had eight passes, Alisha White charted 10 passes and Sabrina White added six assists.

Dunkirk plays again on Wednesday at Gowanda.

SILVER CREEK - Brandy Olsen had 19 assists, two kills and eight aces, as Silver Creek (2-1) downed Westfield, 3-2, in CCAA Division 2 girls' volleyball action, Monday.

Westfield took the first set 25-23, before the Black Knights took the next two, 25-20 and 25-17, respectively. The Lady Wolverines took the fourth set 25-22, but Silver Creek prevailed in the fifth and final set, 25-12.

Missy Keem chipped in with six kills, four aces and four digs in the win while Emily Rechin added four aces, three kills, three blocks and two digs.

Leann Freeman led the Lady Wolverines with eight kills and four blocks while Kelsey Kyser added three kills and a block. Also for Westfield, Maggie Johnson had 26 assists.

In a Division 2 girls' volleyball battle, the Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars (3-1, 2-0) prevailed in a close five set match, 25-19, 24-26, 28-26, 23-25, 25-23, against the Portville Lady Panthers (1-3, 1-1), on Monday.

Abby Pingatore fueled the offense with 18 spikes and nine kills while Kristine Smith had 16 spikes and eight kills for the Lady Cougars. Lindsey Gross supplied 14 spikes and six kills while Annie Lawson dished out 62 assists. Cassie Heil scored 20 points and had 10 aces.

For Portville, Jenny Olsen tallied 26 kills, three blocks and 13 digs while Sarah Lind recorded eight kills and six digs. Kristen Woodhead added seven digs in the loss.

Cassadaga Valley will be at Chautauqa Lake on Wednesday.

FORESTVILLE - Cherish Pope had three kills, three aces and a block, as Forestville (2-2, 2-2) won in straight sets, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-12, dropping Sherman (0-3, 0-3) in CCAA Division 3 girls' volleyball action.

Alicia Valentine added four aces, three assists, two kills and a block while Ryanne Dugan chipped in with six assists and four aces. Also for Forestville, Sydney Youngberg added three aces, two kills and a block while Kerrin Murphy collected three aces and two kills.

Nicole Lindstrom added a five points, a kill and a block for Sherman while teammate Kaylyn Zemeik collected an assist and Teanna Griswold two aces.

CLYMER - The North Collins Lady Eagles (3-0, 3-0) swept the Clymer Lady Pirates (2-3, 2-3), 25-7, 25-21, 25-10, in CCAA Division 3 girls' volleyball on Monday.

North Collins' Amber Letina set up 20 assists for her hitters and Casy Hausher and Hannah Renaldo each came up with five kills. Sam Torrey and five aces and 12 service points while Collen Herc had five aces and 16 service points.

Andrea Lictus tallied eight spikes five service points and two blocks while Kate Wiggers and Emily Trisket each had four spikes and a block for the Lady Pirates. Hannah Neckers set up 15 balls in the loss.

BROCTON - The Brocton Lady Bulldogs (1-3) earned their first win of the year as they downed the Hinsdale Lady Bobcats (0-4), 25-7, 31-29, 25-12, Monday, in Division 3 girls' volleyball action.

Taylor McFarland scored 21 points and provided three aces for the winners while Cindy Ferguson had 10 tips and Kate Stahlman recorded 16 points

Hinsdale's offense was led by Chelsea Kuhs' nine points while Rose Reid added nine digs.

Brocton will play today at home against Panama.
