Gaius W. Becker of Colt Road, Brocton, NY died Monday (Sept. 28, 2009) at the Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility in Bemus Point, NY. He was 72 years of age, born in Jamestown, NY on June 6, 1937, the son of the late Kenneth Milton and Frances Lucille (Farnham) Becker.
A lifelong resident of Brocton, Mr. Becker was a member of the Laona United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the finance committee and a trustee. Vice president of Chautauqua Patrons Insurance Company, he was a member of the Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association. Mr. Becker and his wife owned and operated an insurance and real estate agency office in Brocton for more than 40 years. He was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Appraisers, the Chautauqua County Cooperative Extension, LOGIC, the Leader Tractor Club, the Portland Assessment Review Board & the Portland Evergreen Cemetery Association. He also was a lifelong member and supporter of the Chautauqua County 4-H Program. Surviving are his wife of more than 50 years, Olive Maie (Chase) Becker, whom he married Aug. 28, 1959; three sons, Gaius W. "Bud" (Nancy) Becker of Fredonia, Brian (Lauri) Becker of Stockton, NY and Kenneth Becker of Brocton, NY; his daughter, Mary (Christopher) Maggio of Jamestown, NY; eight grandchildren, Ashley Becker of Brocton, Janelle and Kristen Becker of Fredonia, NY, Owen, Carson and Morgan Becker of Stockton, NY, Sydney and Chase Maggio of Jamestown, NY; and his sister, Betsy (Allan) Lines of Worthington, Ohio. Nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, E. Marie Becker; and an infant brother, Max Becker. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock from the Laona United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stanley Scoville will officiate. Interment will follow in the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the Morse Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Laona United Methodist Church.
