Collins landowners can request to be in ag district

By JACKI COMELLO OBSERVER Correspondent
POSTED: October 1, 2009

COLLINS - During the recent Collins Town Board meeting, landowners were advised that between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30 they can request that their land be included in an agricultural district. Applications can be obtained at the Town Hall or residents can call 858-6229 for additional information.

Gowanda area Little League President Jeff Johnson gave the board a brief presentation about a proposed batting cage. Johnson asked the board to consider allowing Little League to construct the facility at the town park. He explained that extensive fundraising has been done and there is enough money to begin the project once they find a suitable location. "I think it would be a great addition to the park," he said.

The board decided to wait to make a decision until more information is available, such as drawings, liability information and a determination of whether Town youth would be permitted to use the facility on occasion.

In other news:

Councilperson Mary Clark reported that the winter recreation program will be reduced to five months instead of six due to budget concerns and civil service regulations. The program is scheduled to start Oct. 23.

Martin provided an update on the Town Hall Renovation Project. He reported that the move-in date is still late October and it should be fully accessible for this year's elections.

A resolution was passed authorizing the Town of Collins to contribute $371 toward a Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) technical assistance application. Several area municipalities may also contribute to the grant which will explore the formation of a public transportation system for Southeast Erie County. The resolution was contingent upon participation of the other municipalities, which include Brant, Concord, Eden, Evans, Hamburg (Town and Village), North Collins (Town and Village), Angola, Farnham, Gowanda and Springville.

A public hearing was scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. regarding the Federal Community Development Block Grant Funds. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and give their input on the Town's selection of potential projects to be submitted for possible funding by the program. A review of prior Community Development projects and expenditures will also be provided.

The board will meet again on Monday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m in the meeting room of the Collins Library.
