Two injured in Westfield crash

  • Two people were injured Oct. 14 when a tractor and a vehicle collided on Route 5 in the Town of Westfield.

Westfield Police said Michael J. Helmuth, 49, of West Lake Road, Portland was traveling west behind a tractor being operated by Adam J. Robinson, 21, of Route 20, Westfield.

Officers said Robinson allegedly attempted to turn onto North Light Road at the same time Helmuth was attempting to pass the tractor.

This cause Helmuth's vehicle to collide with the front end of Robinson's tractor causing Robinson to be ejected from the tractor.

Helmuth's vehicle was sent into a tail spin through a ditch, striking a telephone pole before coming to rest.

Helmuth was transported to Westfield Hospital and was later flown to Hamot Memorial Hospital in Erie, Pa.

Robinson was also taken to Westfield Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

  • Ray L. Gleespen, 70, of Hawthorn Street, Westfield was charged Friday with trespass.

Westfield Police responded to a call from a residence on Sycamore Lane in Hawthorn Beach regarding an alleged trespass.

Officers were informed Gleespen had allegedly trespassed on land that didn't belong to him and he repeatedly refused to stop going onto the property.

Gleespen was issued a ticket for Westfield Town Court.

Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office
