ANGOLA - The Lake Shore High School/Carrier Educational Center Career & Technical Academy threw open its doors for current and prospective students and their families on Sept. 21 to showcase the wide range of Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Career & Technical Education programs offered there.

Guests had the opportunity to speak with college and employer representatives, enter to win door prizes and sample cuisine courtesy of the Culinary Arts Program. In addition, the Lake Shore/Carrier National Automotive Technicians Education Association committee convened shortly before the open house and members were on hand throughout the evening teaching guests about opportunities in the automotive technology industry.

The open house was the academy's first since the E2CCB Operations and Maintenance and Technology Services staff renovated the northwest corner of the Carrier Educational Center to make way for the new Small Animal Science and Animal Care programs. Small Animal Science is now taught at all four of E2CCB's primary centers in southern Erie and Chautauqua counties.

More than a dozen students are enrolled in Lake Shore/Carrier's Small Animal Science program from the Eden, Lake Shore, North Collins and Hamburg school districts and seven are enrolled in Lake Shore/Carrier's Animal Care program from the Lake Shore, Hamburg and Frontier school districts. Both are taught by Allison Maracle, E2CCB Career & Technical Education instructor.

Students from the Lake Shore, Eden, North Collins, Silver Creek, Forestville, Hamburg and Frontier school districts participate in programs offered at the Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy. The academy currently offers Animal Care; Small Animal Science; Automotive Technology; Culinary Arts; Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; Cosmetology; Emergency Medical Services; and Information Technology/Computer Systems programs.

The Lake Shore/Carrier Career & Technical Academy, located on Route 5 in Angola, is supervised by Mary Schmidt, E2CCB Career & Technical Education supervisor, who also oversees the E2CCB agriculture program offered at the Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District.
