Loretta M. Carey, 48, of Fredonia passed away on October 21, 2009 at Westfield Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
She is survived by her sons, Aaron Carey of Buffalo and Carson Carey of Fredonia, and her brother, Rev. Boyd Edmondson and his wife, Shirley, of Marienville, PA. She is also survived by her former husband, Christopher Carey, of Dunkirk; her sisters-in-law Margaret Fitchlee of Tonawanda, Colleen Maritato of Kenmore, Ellen Zera of Buffalo; her brother-in-law Frank Carey of Jacksonville, FL; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and several aunts and uncles. Her beloved dogs, Molly and Jenny, are also survivors.
Loretta was born April 11, 1961 in Dunkirk. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1979 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from SUNY at Fredonia in 1992, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was a member of Christ Community Church of Fredonia. She was employed in the office at A.W. Farrell & Son Roofing Co. of Dunkirk. She was formerly employed by Dunkirk Metal Products Inc. and also as an adult and community educator at BOCES in Jamestown and Dunkirk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Edmondson, her grandparents; a niece, Katie Edmondson; and many aunts and uncles.
Loretta will be remembered for her enduring faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, the warmth and kindness she directed toward all people, her devotion to her sons and family and the inspiration others drew from her life.
Friends may call at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home on Central Avenue in Dunkirk from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday, October 23. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia. A celebration of her life will be held at the Christ Community Church on Berry Road in Fredonia on Saturday, October 24, at 11 AM. The service is open to the public. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mission Fund of Christ Community Church, Berry Road, Fredonia, NY 14063.
