Carpenters recruit apprentices

OLEAN - The Empire State Carpenters' Apprenticeship Committee, Local 66, will conduct a recruitment through Sept. 15, 2010 for three carpenter apprentices.

Applications can be obtained at Local 66, 112 S. Third Street, Olean, on the third Wednesday of each month, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., during the recruitment period. Applicant must appear in person to fill out the application.

The committee requires that applicants:

Be at least 18 years old.

Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).

Must sign an attestation form stating that they are physically able to do the work.

Must be drug tested at time of indenture at the committee's expense.

Must reside within Local 66's geographic jurisdiction Allegany, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua counties.

Must be willing to attend school in Rochester, New York, for four one-week sessions each year.

Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and school.

For further information, applicants should contact their nearest New York State Department of Labor office or may contact the Local 66 at 372-5009.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
