Expect deer to be on the move around Nov. 4

The warm weather and recent rainfall have made for fine fishing in local streams, but bow hunting will heat up when the temperatures start to cool down. Look for a big increase in deer activity around Nov. 4.
Bill's Hooks (366-0268) reports anglers have been doing well in most of the local streams with imitations accounting for numerous catch and release encounters. Wooly buggers, egg flies and P-line beads can account for fish as well as the old stand-by meat baits (skein, eggs, sacks and worms). On those warm, sunny, calm days, check out the perch haunts for a few ring backs before the cold stuff moves in.
The Department of Environmental Conservation announced that two opportunities are in affect for deer hunters to obtain Deer Management Permits (DMP's) for the upcoming seasons. About 21,000 permits will be issued to hunters who were previously denied earlier this year during the initial application period. The permits will be chosen, starting on Nov. 1. About 20 percent of the previously denied will be selected during a random drawing. Selection of these permits will NOT impact preference points from denial during the initial selection. Units that will have permits will be :(3)C,F,G,H,J,K,N-(4) A,F,G,H,O,P,R,S,T,W,Y (5) R &S (6) A, C,G,K,P,R,S, (7) A,H,, J, P (8) R, T, X, Y and (9) G, H, J, K, N, P, R, S, T, X and Y.
In addition, the DEC will re-open the DMP application process on Nov. 1 for a first-come, first-served basis for WMU's that have not reached target totals during the random selections. The DMP applications will be accepted for 1C, 3M, 3R, 3S, (bow hunting only), 8A, 8F, 8G, 8H, 8J, 8N, 9A and 9F. Hunters can apply for up to two leftover DMPs at DEC licensee sales outlets beginning Nov. 1. The leftover DMP's will NOT be available by phone, mail or Internet.
