Three charged in Fredonia car burglaries

POSTED: October 31, 2009

OBSERVER Staff Report

Three Dunkirk men are facing a slew of charges following a night of burglary and theft in the village of Fredonia.

During the course of the evening and early morning beginning on Oct. 23 Brian Montanez, 20; Cristian Maestre, 19; and Jetchuan Reyes, 19, of Dunkirk allegedly burglarized between 30 and 40 vehicles in a 10-block radius.

Burglaries were isolated between Middlesex Drive and Day Street, and along the east side of Central Avenue. The Fredonia Police Department is currently working with the Chautauqua County District Attorney's office regarding the pending charges.

"We recovered around 80 percent of the property that was removed from the cars. In the process of returning it to the owners and still trying to put together the proper charges we've met with the District Attorney's office regarding it and formal charges are forthcoming," Fredonia Chief of Police Brad Meyers said. "We haven't put anything out yet because it happened (Oct. 23), and every day when we go to try and sort it out something else comes up and we haven't been able to get it out."

Each suspect was held charged initially with larceny and possession of stolen property but more charges are expected following their court appearance in mid-November.
