LAKEWOOD - The Chautauqua-Cataraugus Athletic Association's top-ranked Rachel Mole of Frewsburg was victorious in her first match, downing the ECIC's seventh seed Ellen Meyers of Williamsville South, 6-2, 6-2, in the Section 6 girls' tennis singles tournament at the Lakewood YMCA on Friday.

But Mole lost to top-seed Miranda Podlas of Williamsville East in her second match, 6-0, 6-0.

Podlas had topped No. 4 CCAA seed Joni Keating from Chautauqua Lake, 6-0, 6-0, to earn the right to meet Mole.

Fredonia's Jessica Johnston, the CCAA third seed, lost to Emma Manuel of Williamsville East, 6-0, 6-3, and CCAA's second seed, Leanna Johnson of Falconer, lost to ECIC's sixth seed Becky Tobias of Hamburg, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles action, Southwestern's Mary Diluca and May Li, seeded second in CCAA, were defeated by Ali Phillips and Elizabeth Brydges of Orchard Park, the fifth seed in ECIC, 6-1, 6-0.

The No. 4 ECIC combo of Samantha Rowen and Alex Rowen of Williamsville East defeated Jamestown's Margaret Mims and Carly Whisner, the CCAA third seed, 6-1, 6-1, and Gowanda's Caitie Post and Marya Hoffman, the CCAA fourth seed, fell to ECIC second seed Kelley Mathews and Maddie Robinson, 6-4, 6-2.

Today's winners will advance to the state finals in Manlius, which will take place Nov. 7-9.
