The Municipal Clerks of Chautauqua County named two members Clerk of the Year at a recent meeting.
The Clerk of the Year is a mentor and advocate for municipal clerks and their education. Julie Szumigala and Sally Carlson are the first two well deserving recipients of this award.
Szumigala has been the Town Clerk for Sheridan since 1987. As well as being the Town Clerk, she also serves as the town's bookkeeper, tax collector, and records management officer. She is active in the Home Bureau, Historical Society and Sheridan Community Chorus. She is always willing to serve the public whether it is during office hours or by appointment. Her willingness to help others is not limited to the public either. She has become an active member of the Municipal Clerks of Chautauqua County and has eagerly helped fellow clerks.
Sally Carlson was the North Harmony Town Clerk for more than 30 years and still serves her community as the Town Supervisor. She was a charter member and the driving force that established the Municipal Clerks' Association of Chautauqua County. She has served the association in many ways; serving as president, newsletter editor, and program chairman. She was instrumental in the design and completion of the association's banner.
