Cattaraugus, Erie county results

CATTARAUGUS COUNTY

The former employee bested the employer in the race for Cattaraugus County District Attorney.

Lori Rieman (R), once an assistant to incumbent district attorney Edward M. Sharkey (D,I,C), won her former boss's position with 8,282 votes over 5,005 for Sharkey.

The two other countywide races, for sheriff and coroner, were uncontested. Acting sheriff Timothy S. Whitcomb was officially elected to the position with 12,034 votes. Incumbent coroner Kevin M. O'Rourke earned re-election with 10,892 votes.

ERIE COUNTY

Early Wednesday morning, with 90 percent of districts reporting, Timothy B. Howard and Mark C. Poloncarz appeared to have won re-election to their seats as county sheriff and county comptroller, respectively.

Howard (R,I,C) had a 6-point lead over challenger John A. Glascott (D, Law and Order). Poloncarz (D,W), with 52 percent of the vote, had a 13-point lead over closest challenger Philip C. Kadet. Michael J. Abramo (I) had 3 percent of the vote.
