Halloween celebrated in Cassadaga
By JOAN JOSEPHSON OBSERVER Staff WriterCASSADAGA - On Halloween night, the Cassadaga Elementary gymnasium was awash with monsters, original designs and sweet little ones dressed up in costumes.
The event, the annual costume contest sponsored by the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department, featured prizes, apple cider and donuts.
The five contestant categories ranged from preschool and younger to sixth grade and up with the prizes awarded to the prettiest, scariest, most original, cutest/ugliest or funniest.
In the pre-school and younger, devil Kara Fote took the prettiest; batman Caleb Thompson took the scariest; Wednesday and Pugsley Addams from the Addams Family television show portrayed by Aurick and Lyn Pattison were awarded the most original prize.
The cutest prize went to Brandi Meder, dressed as a baby chicken.
She passed out marshmallow chicks to the crowd.
Davin Skinner, dressed as an elf, complete with a red pointy hat, won the funniest prize.
In the Kindergarten through first-grade category, the prettiest award went to princess Abbey Dubois; the scariest was a dragon portrayed by Brook Clever; the cutest was a witch worn by Grace Worsitz and the funniest, Timothy Ode disguised as an old man.
The second- and third-grade contest was won by Katrinah Bretyl awarded the prettiest as a fairy; Trenton Gugino the scariest as a clown; Matt Mikula won the most original for his rhino costume; Sarah Ames was the funniest as a caveman and Michelle Grimm was the cutest as a fashion model.
In the fourth- and fifth-grade category, Sarah Buchanan won the prettiest in her Minnie Mouse costume; Benjamin DeJesus' clown costume was declared the scariest.
Morgan Perkins dressed as a vampire was named the most original; Matt Tinstman's zombie was chosen as the ugliest and Tyler Wise's portrayal as a gorilla was declared the funniest.
For the sixth grade and up, those chosen included Mikula Rosbloch as a geisha girl named the prettiest; Thomas Lazarony as Darth Vader was the scariest; Kendra Dorman's dork costume won the most original and Tarya Wojtkowiak as a zombie complete with a pitchfork was chosen as the ugliest.
Brandon Wise won the funniest prize for his portrayal as a turkey, complete with a full tail and an authentic gobble.
