County Health Department not involved in Silver Creek death
By APRIL DIODATO OBSERVER Staff WriterSILVER CREEK - Two days after the death of 11-year-old Katelin Doctor, a sixth-grade student in the Silver Creek Central School District was reported, Chautauqua County Department of Health Director Christine Schuyler said the county health department has no involvement in the case.
"There's a lot of rumors going around," Schuyler said. "I cannot confirm or deny anything, or any of them."
Doctor died unexpectedly at Lake Shore Hospital Tuesday, with the cause of death still undetermined.
Silver Creek Superintendent David O'Rourke issued a statement Tuesday night acknowledging that the district had lost a student, expressing his sympathy for the loss. O'Rourke provided further information Wednesday on grief counseling available at the school upon students' return from the Veterans Day holiday.
"Our hearts go out to the family as they grieve their loss of a child, and our staff and students are deeply saddened," O'Rourke said.
