Board accepts bid for dredge work
By APRIL DIODATO OBSERVER Staff WriterSILVER CREEK - The Village Board accepted the bid from UCC Constructors, Inc. of West Seneca for the removal of sediment in the mouth of Silver Creek at the point where it flows into Lake Erie. The contract for the project is in the amount of $118,499. Dredge work could begin as early as today.
The board opened bids at a meeting held Nov. 12 and decided to re-bid the project at the Monday night special meeting, with bids accepted until 4 p.m. Nov. 23.
The work, as specified in the bid, is to be completed within seven days.
"They feel that they can get it done within that time frame," Trustee Amy Romanik said.
A small abstract was also approved by the board to pay rent for the building temporarily being used for the Department of Public Works and for a dump truck and tractor for the DPW. The building owned by George Bentges Distributing, located at Routes 5 and 20 in Irving, is being leased by the village for $4,562.98 per month and is reimbursable by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for up to six months. The DPW building, originally located in the village off North Main Street, sustained significant structural damage in the August flood and was condemned by FEMA. The building collapsed on Oct. 1.
