Joseph A. Barlette Sr., 96,
of Dunkirk, New York died Sunday evening (Nov. 22,
2009) at home with his lov-ing family beside him.He was born in Dunkirk
on Nov. 10, 1913, the son of the late Carmine and
Maria (Taddio) Barletto.Mr. Barlette was a life-
long resident of Dunkirk. From 1933 to 1935, Joe
was a member of the Civili-an Conservation Corps
(CCC) Company 262 run by the military under FDR
and was stationed in Gla-cier National Park, Monta-
na, where his job was to clear out burned forest
trees and then in Home-
stead, Florida, where his job was to erect telephone
poles. Joe worked for the New
York Central Railroad, Al-legheny Ludlum Steel Plant,
General Electric, cement finisher on the construc-
tion of Niagara Mohawk and finally retired from the
Brocton Central Schools.He was a parishioner of
Holy Trinity Church. The greatest importance to Joe
was spending time with his family and friends. He had
a passion for books and reading. He was an avid
hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
At 95, you would still catch him dancing a few steps.
You could find him most days catching up with
friends at the local OTB of-fice. Family and friends re-
call with fond memories his spirited stories of years
past.Joseph is survived by his
sons, Carmen Barlette, Daniel (Sharon) Barlette, Joseph II (Nancy) Barlette and Robert (Wendy) Bar-lette; daughters Joanne (Tony) Giantonio and Pa-
tricia (James) Lemanski; 11 grandchildren; 13 great
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by
by his beloved wife, F. Rose in 1997; five brothers, An-thony Barletto, Frank Bar-
letto, Thomas Barlette, Joseph Barletto and Victor Barlette; three sisters, Mary
Guido, Amelia Vendette,
Josephine DeCarlo and Celia Delvechio; and his
grandson, Craig Catalano. Funeral services will be
held Wednesday at 9:15 from the McGraw-Kowal
Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o'clock in Holy Trini-
ty Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call today from 4-8 p.m. at the
funeral home.
