New water line expected by first of new year

By JOAN JOSEPHSON OBSERVER Staff Writer
POSTED: November 25, 2009

CASSADAGA - Putnam Road residents will likely see their new water line in place by the first of the year.

At a recent Cassadaga Village Board meeting, Mayor LeeAnn Lazarony said project engineer Bob Armstrong and contractor L.W. Parker planned a pre-construction meeting.

Richard Lascola, who will serve as the clerk of the works for the project, said it should take no longer than a month to complete it.

"We have to install the pipe, disinfect it and hook up the residents," he explained.

Mayor Lazarony also noted that Anderson indicated the new water well development has been approved by Rural Development, the federal agency that is providing funding for the $5 million water development project.

The village needs the approval of the state health department for this portion of the project before it can proceed and obtain bids on the new well.

This, too, should be provided shortly, the mayor said.

Village clerk Roxanne Astry said the agency the village hoped would provide funds to purchase new water meters is no longer functioning.

She suggested the village board consider including this cost as part of the $5 million.

"We would need approximately 250 new meters with the cost of each estimated at $300 and this doesn't include installation," she said.

The board agreed to wait until all the members were present to discuss this further.

Mayor Lazarony said she has met with zoning code officer Sam Mancuso to discuss how to handle abandoned property and grass that hasn't been mowed in months.

"Sam said he would help the village develop local laws to address these concerns," the mayor said.
