John B. "Jasiu Opastrani" Jagoda, 77, of Dunkirk died Thursday afternoon (Dec. 3, 2009) at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo after an illness. He was born Sept. 10, 1932 in Dunkirk, the son
of the late Frank and Katherine (Keilen) Jagoda. John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He retired from the OBSERVER in Dunkirk and the former Kraft Foods.
An avid bowler, he had played on local teams and on a brothers-only team with his brothers in Erie. His memberships included Blessed Mary Angela Parish of St. Hedwig's Church, American Legion Post 62 and the Dunkirk Exempt Fireman's Club. Surviving are his children, Kathy A. and Russell Jr. Tenamore, Sandra Gworek and Pat Gugino of Dunkirk; grandchildren
John Tenamore, Richard and Danielle Tenamore, Vincent and Jessica Tenamore, and Olivia
Gworek, all of Dunkirk; six great-grandchildren; brother of David and Janet Jagoda, Jim and Jean Jagoda, both of Dunkirk, Ray (Dolores) Jagoda of Florida, Fritz Jagoda of North
East, Pa. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Nancy (Rushinowski) Jagoda, whom he married Aug. 31, 1957 and who died April 14, 2009; brothers Robert and Frank Jagoda; and sister, Jean
Harper. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home
Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Sunday from 7 to 9. Memorial services for both John and Nancy will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Hedwig's Church. Burial
will be held at the convenience of the family.
