Ruth Schumacher Fisk

Ruth Schumacher Fisk, 81 of the village of Fredonia passed on Wednesday, February 3. Ruth was born March 1, 1928 in Buffalo, NY to John and Helen Schumacher. Ruth graduated from Kensington High School in 1945 and entered the Deaconess Hospital Nursing Program. Ruth later worked at the Buffalo Public Library for 13 years prior to moving to Dunkirk. In 1964 she married William (Bill) Fisk. She then set out to pursue a degree as a Registered Nurse (RN) at Trocaire College and finally

achieved her goal at the age of 51. She worked at Brooks Memorial Hospital beginning as a nurse's aid and then as an RN until her retirement in 1993. Her dedication to nursing continued and she later worked at Parkshore Health Care Center. Ruth and Bill resided at the Dunkirk Conference Center as the on-site care takers for 35 years. Ruth cherished her time with her family, her animals, playing

bingo and pinochle, her profession, and shopping. Anyone who knew Ruth knew she was feisty, had a

great sense of humor and was a shrewd card player. She lived a long life full of challenges and love. She has touched many lives and will be missed and remembered by all. Ruth is survived by her

chosen family, which includes her son John (Maria) Ramos, daughter Sally Graves Ramos and granddaughters Saunsanie Ramos, Nevia (James) Ramos Clayton, and Jennasha Ramos. Her surviving relatives include her sister Jean (Wayne) Vernon, nephews' Dale (Donna), Michael Vernon, and niece Julie (Don) Jenson. Ruth's many cherished family and friends include her nieces and nephews, and both the Ramos and Graves families. Ruth was preceded by her husband, William (Bill)

Fisk, and her daughter, Michele Fisk.

A service is tentatively scheduled for February 27, 2010 at 11:00 am, location to be announced.
