11:25 a.m.: DEMOLITION SOUGHT TO EXTINGUISH FIRE
POSTED: February 25, 2010
The demolition of the Masonic Building in Dunkirk could happen as soon as later today.
During a meeting held in the Mayor's Conference Room of City Hall across from the fire, discussions were held on neighboring buildings - One Liberty Square and the Graf Building, which houses a number of county offices.
Alan Loeb of the Dunkirk Fire Department says the only way the fire will be doused is by demolition.
Officials from the city and the building's owners were present at the meeting.
In the meantime, businesses along Central Avenue, from Third to Fourth streets are not open - and will not be open until officials can be certain the building will not collapse.

Yes forth you are absolutely correct. Now there will be no reminder of times past in Dunkirk. That is unless you go north of the RR tracks.

Sadly, the last worthy arcitectural edifice in Dunkirk now waiting for the wrecking ball. A tragic end to a building that was erected in better times but later became the landmark of a welfare dependent sociey. Years later, the ghost of urban renewal? has claimed its last vestige of Dunkirk's better days.
