Two-vehicle accident sends 12 to hospitals

COLLINS - A two-vehicle accident Sunday sent 12 people to Erie County hospitals.

According to the State Police at Collins, at approximately 4:10 p.m., troopers were called to the scene of a two-car personal injury auto accident that occurred on State Route 438 on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.

The investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Dennaleigh Jamieson, of Versailles was traveling south bound on Route 438 and she attempted to make a left hand turn into a private driveway.

The second vehicle driven by Kellie Riley was traveling north bound on Route 438 and could not avoid Jamieson's vehicle and collided with the passenger side of the vehicle.

A total of 12 people were taken to area hospitals as a result of the crash.

The most seriously injured was Veronica Cook, of Railroad Avenue, Irving, who was a passenger in Jamieson's vehicle. Cook sustained a pelvic injury and as a result, she was flown by Mercyflight to ECMC. Her injuries are not life threatening.

All of the other occupants of the two vehicles were transported to either Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville or Women's and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, by ambulance. Troopers did not identify any of the other injured passengers.

Their injuries consisted of lacerations, contusions and/or complaint of pain. Four of the 12 passengers were children under the age of 18.

The road condition was dry pavement and the weather was cloudy at the time of the accident. Weather or road conditions were not contributing factors in the accident.

The investigation is continuing and charges may be pending.
