Eight-year-old Samantha Brewster will have a purpose to her step this weekend.
She, along with approximately 10 members of her family and friends from Cassadaga's Grandma's Kitchen, will be taking part in the 3.5k Walk for Babies, also known as the March for Dimes that takes place at Chautauqua Institution this Saturday.
Samantha is walking in memory of her cousin, Rylee Jade, who died shortly after birth two years ago from complications of a premature birth. However, Rylee's twin sister, Summer, survived, and is a healthy, happy 2 year old.
"She's going to take part in the walk as well, but she will be riding in a stroller," Samantha explained.
Samantha says she wants to participate in the walk because she knows how important its purpose is.
So do the teachers at Forestville Elementary School where Samantha is a second grade student.
"My teachers gave me a $40 donation to contribute for the Walk For Babies," she said.
Her Mom, Tracy, said she is very proud of Samantha.
"We are hoping others will join her in this very important event that will fund work that will help prevent the loss of a baby," she said.
