Irene S. Krzyzanowicz, 83, of Dunkirk, died Tuesday morning, July 13, 2010, at the Chautauqua County Home, following a brief illness.
Irene was born March 31, 1927, in Buffalo, daughter of the late Peter and Sophie (Szafranski) Szukala.
A retired employee of Kraft Foods in Dunkirk and at one time, an employee of the former Van Raalte Corporation of Dunkirk.
Member of the Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth, also active helping out at the parish Lawn Fete. Irene enjoyed to cook, sew and go shopping. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are children, Richard (Sandra) Krzyzanowicz of Forestville, Darlyn (James) Andrews of Dunkirk, Dennis (Rebecca) Krzyzanowicz of Fredonia; brothers, Peter (Marlene) Szukala of Michigan, Robert (Judy) Szukala and Henry (Geraldine) Szukala, of Dunkirk; sisters, Delores (Raymond) Abramowicz of Dunkirk and Alice (Kurt) Daigel of Albany; grandchildren, Jason Krzyzanowicz, Christopher (Jill) Krzyzanowicz, Amanda (Scott) Benson, Jeremy Krzyzanowicz and Erin (Marcos) Alvalle; great-grandchildren, Keraghen and Karleigh Krzyzanowicz; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Krzyzanowicz, who died May 9, 1993; and sisters, Esther Geirmek and Shirley Skelly.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc., 56 East Doughty St. in Dunkirk, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10 o'clock at Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
