CAC hears road update

County Legislator Robert Duff updated the Citizens Advisory Committee on the Millenium Parkway progress recently. He told the committee that while $8.4 million was allocated for the project, the money "disappeared into the county coffers."

"The county executive is determined that the parkway will come down Route 60 and across Talcott Street," Duff told the group.

The group also learned that Access 12 has moved from the Boorady Building to the Stearn Building next to City Hall. CAC member Bill Reardon also noted the Dunkirk Farmers Market needs to be advertised more. The Fredonia Market is doing well with the advertising they do.

Change of venue

The regular meeting of the Dayton Town Board will be held at the Dayton Fire Hall, 9512 Route 62, Dayton, on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. due to the Primary Election being held at the Town Hall.

Community Investment Applications available

United Way of Northern Chautauqua County (UWNCC) is accepting applications for Community Investment Grants. Community Investment Grants provide funding to organizations in support of projects that address priority human service needs in Northern Chautauqua County. Indicators given consideration are Education, Income & Health.

501(c)(3) agencies registered with the New York State Charities Bureau may apply for these funds. Projects submitted may be either new or existing programs not currently supported by UWNCC Allocations. Grants will be awarded for the 2011 calendar year, during which UWNCC will evaluate the on-going need for the program as well as the provider's performance. Agencies may re-apply each year under the Community Investment Grant Program; however, no commitment of continued funding is promised or implied.

Community Investment Grants will be used to support projects that address problems in the community identified through problem identification studies and/or needs assessments. Funding requests must not exceed $12,000. The 2011 total to be awarded is $49,362.

If your organization is interested in applying, please request a grant application by calling 366-5424 or e-mailing patti@unitedwayncc.org no later than Sept. 15. Grant applications are due in the UWNCC office by the close of business on Oct. 6.

Once those chosen for final consideration are determined, those applicants will be contacted to schedule a time to meet with the volunteer Community Investment Committee.

If you have questions, require further information or would like to participate as a volunteer committee member, please contact the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County at 366-5424. Advance the Common Good. Give. Advocate. Volunteer. LIVE UNITED.

SeeThroughNY

The names and salaries of 186,223 people who worked for New York's county, city, town and village governments in 2009-10 today were posted in a searchable database at www.SeeThroughNY.net, the transparency website sponsored by the Manhattan Institute's Empire Center for New York State Policy.

The Empire Center also released a report, "2009-10 Public Payrolls," which summarizes average wages on a regional basis for each of the 1,512 local governments (outside New York City) contained in the database, which is based on reports filed with the state pension system.
