Warren-based state police reported that at 9:15 a.m., Friday, Sherwood A. Sampson, 80, of Lakewood, N.Y., was driving a 2004 Buick Le Sabre east on Route 6 in Mead Township when the Le Sabre travelled off the eastbound berm, struck a sign, and flipped onto its roof, coming to rest on its roof facing west, near the intersection of Route 6 and Cherrygrove Road. Sampson and the passenger, Jenny M. Sampson, 79, also of Lakewood, were transported to Warren General Hospital for treatment of their injuries, police said. Police reported being helped at the scene by the Clarendon and Sheffield Volunteer Fire Departments.
