Benefit planned for ailing Chandlers Valley man

Organizers plan to hold a benefit for a Chandlers Valley man to help defray medical expenses he has incurred.
Tricia Donnell said she got to know Dave Waite as a member of the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department, where he serves as fire police captain and has been a member for years.
Waite has suffered multiple health problems, Donnell said, and has gone to an Erie hospital four or five times since March.
A flyer for the benefit states Waite remained in the Erie hospital from mid-March until mid-June, a total of 14 weeks, after contracting a staph infection. He fell after his discharge and then experienced renal failure, according to the flyer, and returned to the hospital for another five weeks.
As of Sept. 9, Donnell said she believes Waite is at home. The flyer said he is regaining his strength.
According to the flyer, a chicken and biscuit benefit dinner and auction is planned for next month. Donnell said workers anticipate 500 people to attend and will sell 50/50 tickets at the benefit scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall.
Costs have included traveling back and forth from the hospital, Donnell said. In addition, she said his insurance does not cover expenses like rehabilitation.
“He’s been an outstanding member of the community for many years,” Donnell said. “Whenever somebody needs him, he’s there and it would be nice for the community to show its support.”
