COLLINS - Looking for some good books to read but don't want to buy them new? Collins Public Library has just the place to shop as it holds its annual Book Sale in the library's Community Room.
Fiction, nonfiction, hard cover, paper backs, children's books, books on tape, magazines, DVDs, VCR tapes will all be for sale. Donna Powell is heading up the book sale portion of this three day event that starts Thursday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. Powell announces that a wide diversity of books is available for sale at very reasonable prices due to the especially large number of books that have been donated this year.
Judy Hotnich, chairman of the cookie sale being held simultaneously, promises a wide variety of homemade goodies. She would be happy to receive donations of cookies or brownies on any of the sale days to help replenish the supply of baked goods.
There will also be a Chinese auction of four quilted pieces made by and graciously donated by members of the Quilting with Florence program, held each Tuesday at the library. Quilted articles can be seen in the display case in the library's entrance. Tickets will be available each day of the sale. Mary Cummings chairs this fundraiser, sponsored by Friends of the Collins Library.
"Libraries in Erie County are facing reductions in funding for the coming year and proceeds from the sales can help to reduce a small portion of the pain," Joan Byrne, Friends of the Library president, said in seeking help from all those who use and appreciate the building and service given by Karen McClure, library director, and her efficient and friendly staff. All proceeds from the three sales benefit the Collins Library.
Sale hours are: Thursday. Sept. 16, 2 to 8 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Collins Public Library is located at 2341 Main St., Collins.
