CHAUTAUQUA LAKE - The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds hosted their fifth annual girls' high school volleyball tournament Saturday and came out the winners of the Gold Medal bracket.
In the shortened style of play where the first team with two wins takes the match, the Lady Thunderbirds beat Panama in three games, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-22 to take the tourney. To get to the finals, Chautauqua Lake defeated Forestville 25-13 and 25-21 while Panama beat Fredonia 25-17, 25-19.
Silver Creek took the Silver Medal bracket with a sweep of Ellicottville, 25-21 and 25-20, and Westfield took the Bronze medal bracket, downing Ripley 21-25, 25-18, 25-10.
Making the All-Tournament Team were: Amy Seybold, Fredonia; Janae Hamilton, Ellicottville; Taylor Lloyd, Panama; Christina Rauh, Panama; Jenny Brown, Chautauqua Lake; and Jill Einink, Chautauqua Lake.
Also participating in the tournament were Southwestern, Salamanca, Clymer, and West Valley.
