Silver Creek welcomes new teachers to the staff

SILVER CREEK - Silver Creek school board members had reason to celebrate recently, as they welcomed four new teachers to the staff. The teacher reception took place before the school board meeting, where cookies and punch were served.

New teachers Katelyn Hitzges, Kristin Zells, Ashley Steenberg, Shannon Near, Kate Hienrich and Courtney Coggins were welcomed by the board and other staff in attendance.

The board also recognized teachers Ray Graf, Rachel Gugliuzza, Lindsey Weiss and Brittany Jahreis for attending the Seneca Nation carnival for Seneca students and teachers to get to know each other better. Superintendent David O'Rourke distributed the certificate of recognition for the teachers in attendance.

The board also approved of the appointment of Christina Gullo-Evans as a substitute teacher and Michelle Helmer as teacher induction coordinator.

The board approved Wayne Griem as the boys modified head basketball coach and William Brennan as the assistant coach.

The board also approved the chance for several teacher to continue learning by attending conferences in the upcoming months. Rachel Curtin's request to attend the winter NYSSMA conference in Rochester on Dec. 2 to Dec. 5, Elaine Krezmien's request to attend the Special Education Administration Academy in Ellicotville on Oct 20 to Oct. 22 and Christian Charles, Sarah Davis, Kevin Rice's requests to attend the New Literacies for a new age conference in Albany from Oct. 20 to Oct. 22 were all approved.

The next Silver Creek Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. with a workshop an hour prior.
