County Executive Greg Edwards called the proposal to cut spending by the Democrats on Wednesday a "budget stunt."
"It was a situation which should have taken place over a month," Edwards said of the legislature's consideration of such cuts to county services. "Instead, a week ago, Democrats appeared with what they say would be $7 million in savings to the taxpayers without regard to what the impact would be to the people of Chautauqua County."
Edwards went on say that the legislature was doing committee work on the floor and that it was "unconscionable" that the body was there until midnight.

"Not that the time or the hour is an issue," Edwards explained, "but the fact that the work that should have been done in the committees wasn't, and we were potentially at risk of losing services ... all because of this what I'll call a budget stunt. So I'm thrilled that it turned out the way it did.
