Mt. Carmel Social Club
SILVER CREEK - President Tampio called the meeting to order with the pledge to the flag. Chaplain Morabito read a prayer called Seasons Greetings. Vice President Josie Crino called roll with 32 members present.
Secretary Hilliker read the previous minutes and Marie Sack gave the treasurer's report. Nina Botticello gave the financial secretary's report. All were approved as read.
Carm read a note from Crino thanking the group for the luncheon.
It was decided by the members to purchase a new microwave for the kitchen. Leo Morabito will look into it.
The Christmas party will be held at the Colony on Dec. 15 as a cost of $10 per member. Members are asked to sign in at the next meeting. Call Marie Sack at 934-3547 for more information. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Doors will not be open until 12:30 p.m.
Les and Joe Ark held the 50/50 and many members won. The club invites guests and membership is always open.
Silver Creek Seniors
SILVER CREEK - The Silver Creek Seniors met at the clubrooms on Route 5.
President Ed Newman led the club in the pledge to the flag and singing of "God Bless America."
Chaplain Irene Conny read "More and More." The secretary was absent and the minutes were read by Newman. Minutes were taken by Thelma Hilliker.
Treasurer Lorry Newman read the financial report and Joyce Snyder read the petty cash report. Members were reminded that it was Pearl Harbor Day.
Newman read a letter from Michael Henry. Members signed two cards for Marv and Fran Smith and Linda Taylor.
The 50/50 drawing was won by Irene Conny, Carl Mohart and Ernie Hilliker. The weekly drawing was won by Harry Suski and Lorry Newman. John Krestic read some jokes.
Refreshment committee for Dec. 14 is Marv and Fran Smith.
The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served. Bingo was called by Ernie Hilliker.
50-Plus Seniors
COLLINS - Culminating the 50-Plus Senior Program's final week of activities for 2010 is the annual Toy Wrapping Friday for this year's Gowanda Lions Club Toys for Kids Drive.
"Our seniors have been lending a helping hand with this worthwhile local project for many years and as we grow older, volunteers of all ages become more and more important in getting the task finished in a timely manner," Joan Byrne, senior program coordinator, stressed in requesting assistance.
Wrapping will start at 10 a.m. in the gymnasium of L. K. Painter Community Center, Main Street, Collins. It is suggested that wrappers bring their own scissors if possible. The senior program will provide lunch for the workers. Come join in helping to make Christmas a happier time for a child in need.
The year's final Senior Soup and Sandwich Lunch will be held Tuesday at noon in the senior room. Menu includes Vegetable Beef Soup, Egg Salad Sandwich, Dessert and Beverages. Cost is $2.50; reservations are required and must be made no later than Monday noon by calling 532-2006, Ext. 21. Sequence Board Game and/or Euchre will follow.
Other activities for this final week of the 50-Plus Senior Program of 2010 are: Indoor Walking and Exercise led by Pat Tucker, 9 a.m., held in the gymnasium Monday and Wednesday. Gentle Arthritis Exercise, held Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m., gymnasium. Monday - Tai Chi, led by Elaine McGuire and Bobbie Leisner, 1 p.m., gymnasium; warm-up exercises start at 12:20 p.m.; Informal Euchre Game, 2 p.m., senior room. Tuesday - Senior Soup and Sandwich Lunch, noon, senior room; Quilting with Florence, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Community Room, Collins Public Library, for information call Florence Reynolds, 532-3075. Wednesday- Informal Crafts with Pat Tucker, 1 p.m., senior room, Senior Bowling, 1 p.m., K & L Lanes. Cost is $1.50 per game or 3 games for $4. Thursday - Community Service Project, if needed, 1 p.m., senior room.
All 50-Plus Senior Activities held at the center will be closed for the holiday season. Activities will resume Jan. 3, 2011. When the Gowanda School District closes because of weather conditions, the 50-Plus Senior activities at L. K. Painter Community Center are also canceled. If there is an exception to this, it will be so noted on Channel 2.
Reservations for the April 3 "Sound of Music" trip at SUNY Fredonia are needed as soon as possible, as the matinee performance is nearly sold out. To make reservations, call Byrne at 532-2507 or sign up in the senior room no later than Dec. 17. Cost is $25.50 for residents of the towns of Collins, Perrysburg and Persia and $27.50 for all others. Price includes a soup supper at the center upon return.
