Wendy Corsi Staub has come back to the area she grew up in for the book release of "Scared to Death."

She visited the Barker Library Tuesday afternoon to take questions from local fans.

"We had a good turnout; 25 to 30 people showed up to see Wendy," Carey Caserta, special projects assistant at the Barker Library, said.

Staub's visit to the library was sponsored by the Friends of the Barker Library.

"The library would like to thank the Friends for sponsoring the event and Wendy for sharing her experiences," Caserta added.

Staub gave a short talk and then took questions from the audience which included the library's book club who is currently reading one of Staub's novels to be discussed in January.

Staub took questions from the audience ranging from, why she continues to reference the local area in several of her books, to advice for budding writers.

Staub first referenced Lily Dale in "In the Blink of an Eye."

"I received a lot of mail from teens after that so I wrote the Lily Dale series. I like to revisit the area when I can; I have a lot of local pride," Staub said.

Her advice to local readers was simply, "If you want anything bad enough, you can do anything. Being a writer was my dream and I worked really hard and was able to do it."

After the Q & A, Staub signed books and refreshments were served, compliments of the Friends.

Later on in the evening Staub appeared at The Book Nook for the signing of her new book, "Scared to Death," the second in an adult thriller trilogy.

This is Staub's first time to be in Dunkirk on a release day, although she always tries to revisit The Book Nook, where she used to work. Staub also used to write a column for the OBSERVER.

Although Staub no longer lives in western New York, she tries to bring attention to the area and is still a part of it.

"I like to reference the local area in my books because it brings attention to the area. I'm proud that I come from western New York," she said.

She proved she is still connected to western New York when she greeted several of her fans by name when they came to get their books signed.

"Scared to Death" is an adult suspense novel which is the continuation of 'Live to Tell', which made the New York Times Bestsellers list.

"'Scared to Death' is an adult suspense thriller, I went back to my roots. It has domestic suspense and the main character is a mom, like me," she said describing her new book to those gathered at The Book Nook.

Staub has written more than 70 books since her start in 1993, but this is her 15th adult suspense book. Staub also writes women's fiction books under the pen name 'Wendy Markham'.

She is currently working on the third book in the trilogy after "Scared to Death," called 'Hell to Pay', to be released in the fall. She is also working on a new trilogy to be released in 2012.

Also, look forward to a TV series pilot based on her Lily Dale book series.
