Twenty years ago - 1991
Don Frame of Fredonia is important to the well-being of Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk and recently the club honored him with a testimonial dinner attended by 100 members and guests. The club presented Mr. Frame with a plaque, which will hang in the Pro Shop, among other gifts. His contributions to the club have included ongoing improvement of the club grounds, beach and golf course; and assistance with golf tournaments and other club activities.
Thirty years ago - 1981
Student of the Week is Doreen Hilliker, 17, a senior in the food services program at BOCES and at Silver Creek Central School. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hilliker, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Club. Doreen has also participated in volleyball and high school chorus. Upon graduation, she plans to continue her training in the food services field at a college in New York state.
Forty years ago - 1971
"Mini-shorts" are the latest fashion rage for women, say leading designers in Paris. The custom-fitted shorts are being shown with long jackets and under semi-sheer evening gowns. Paris fashion experts are predicting shorts will rule the world.
Fifty years ago - 1961
A Dunkirk man was part of the recent Presidential inaugural ceremonies in Washington, D.C. Marine Lance Cpl. Richard L. Peebles, 409 Dove St., Dunkirk was a member of the Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps which passed in review before the new President at the White House.
