WCA Home March Resident and Employee of the Month

March 11, 2011
The OBSERVER

Ruth Thomas, who became a member of the WCA Home family on July 15, 2010, is being celebrated as its March Resident of the Month. Most recently a Westfield resident, Thomas is a native of Wabash, Ind., where she attended and graduated from Anderson High School and later earned a two-year degree at Indiana University.

Thomas's employment history includes a period as secretary to the president of the Chamber of Commerce. Married to her husband Ed in 1938, her family grew to include son, Jon, and daughter, Cheryl, and now includes six grandchildren.

A former member of the Eastern Star and two bridge clubs, Thomas has delighted in her hobbies: driving, reading, traveling, walking, painting and playing cards. As a WCA Home resident, her favorite activities, in addition to her bridge games, include reading, drawing and visiting.

Pat Anzalone and Ruth Thomas.

Pat Anzalone, a medication charge and certified personal care aide, shares honors with Thomas. The Dunkirk native and staffer at the WCA Home since April 2009, she was named its March Employee of the Month in a recent photo ceremony.

A Dunkirk High School graduate, Anzalone continued her education with college business courses before marrying Russ, her husband of 38 years. They are the parents of two children, a son and a daughter, and the grandparents of three girls and two boys.

Anzalone's busy hobby and leisure activity schedule includes arts and crafts and reading. In addition, she finds time for throwing wedding and graduation parties for family, gardening, doing lunch and bowling with her grandson, and talking on the phone for hours with her son in South Carolina.

"I love my relationships with staff and residents," Anzalone said. "Seeing the happiness on a resident's face when they reach a special goal - in fact, just seeing residents every day is special for me. I consider the WCA Home; my home away from home!"

The WCA Home, www.wcahome.org, has 37 private residence rooms for both respite and long-term care in a spacious and fully-renovated Victorian home providing adult women of any religious denomination with quality living, safety, companionship and comfort.
