Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon, District 12, recently announced the return of her Prom Dress Drive to benefit southtown girls in need of a dress for the big dance. This is Legislator Dixon's second Prom Dress Drive and she is excited to build on the success of last year's drive.
"We collected approximately 400 dresses, each cleaned by Urban Valet Cleaners in Hamburg. The community really stepped forward, donating dresses in various sizes and colors," Legislator Dixon said. "It was an amazing event and I hope this year we can help even more girls and ensure everyone in need has a beautiful gown for the prom."
New or gently worn dresses in a range of sizes and colors are needed. Dresses can be dropped off from March 28 through April 8 at the following locations:
Boston Library, 9475 Boston State Road, Boston
Eden Boys and Girls Club, 8284 North Main Street, Eden
Evans Town Hall, 8787 Erie Road, Angola
Hamburg Library, 102 Buffalo St., Hamburg
North Collins Library, 2095 School St., North Collins
Urban Valet Dry Cleaners, visit www.myurbanvalet.com for locations
Lake Shore Library, S 4857 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg
"Through these drives we can recycle beautiful gowns that were probably only worn once and donate them to a girl who otherwise couldn't afford to buy a new dress from the store or to someone just looking to be cautious during these difficult economic times. This is a great community effort and last year the girls enjoyed shopping through the many dresses donated by generous neighbors until they found the perfect one," Legislator Dixon said.
Eric Pyne, owner of Urban Valet Cleaners located at 106 Evans St., Village of Hamburg, is again donating his services and will clean every dress donated.
