Wilson Farms customers ‘Step Up to the Plate’ to help Meals on Wheels

April 1, 2011
The OBSERVER

Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels, a United Way agency, recently announced that it has been awarded $100 dollars from Wilson Farms as part of "Step Up to the Plate," a statewide campaign to raise money for senior nutrition programs.

The fundraising campaign ran from Oct. 27 through Nov. 27, 2010, at all Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms Xpress convenience stores. Customers had the opportunity to purchase paper plates for $1 with all proceeds benefiting the nearest senior nutrition program. The purchased "plate" included the name of each donor and was displayed in each area store.

Last year the campaign raised $28,000 to help provide home-delivered meals for the elderly and disabled. Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels is currently providing meals to more than 170 clients Monday through Friday in Dunkirk, Fredonia, Silver Creek, Irving, Forestville, Brocton and Portland.

"We thank Wilson Farms for its ongoing support of the home meal delivery program and its commitment to the health and well being of the seniors who reside in northern Chautauqua County," said Joan Houck, director of Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels.
