Columban Sisters 55th annual Spring Festival set for Sunday

June 3, 2011
The OBSERVER

SILVER CREEK - On Sunday, the Columban Sisters will host the 55th annual Spring Festival on the grounds of St. Columban's on the Lake Retirement Home located at 2546 Lake Road in Silver Creek. The event, which will run from noon to 6 p.m., promises to have something for everyone.

The tradition, now ongoing for more than half a century, is a sign that summer in Chautauqua County is around the corner. The proceeds from the event support the Columban Sisters worldwide mission. The Sisters offer supportive services, love and compassion to those less fortunate in Chile, China, Hong Kong, England, Ireland, Korea, Burma, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Scotland and the United States.

The event will include one of the season's first Chiavetta's chicken barbecues. There will be many games of chance and several booths including homemade crafts, gift baskets, grocery bags, gifts, baked goods, plants and a variety of summertime treats. Participants will be offered a guided tour of the retirement home from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Classic cars and musical entertainment will be on display for the participants. Children are also encouraged to be in attendance, and will be offered an array of games, horse drawn wagon and pony rides.
