FORESTVILLE - A 10-year-old boy is recovering at Children's Hospital in Buffalo today after a near drowning Tuesday night in a swimming pool in Forestville.
Town of Sheridan and Village of Forestville fire departments were on Creek Road in a training session when the call came in at 8:15 p.m.
"The parents did a great job with CPR as he was breathing upon our arrival. We got there fast, we were training right up the street," Sheridan Fire Chief Jeff Roberts said. "It's one in a million chance ... we only get X amount of calls on Creek Road and to get one while we were on Creek Road was fortunate."

According to Roberts, the boy's parents called 9-1-1 and performed the proper resuscitation techniques.
By 8:45 p.m., Forestville Fire had already set up a landing zone farther down Creek Road near an open field for Starflight to transport the child to Children's Hospital. Alstar Ambulance had transported the child from the home between Rider Road and Laona Road to the landing zone.
Roberts said he was unsure of how the near-drowning incident took place.

Forestville Fire Department set up a landing zone on Route 85/Creek Road near an open field and marked out a location for Starflight to land and retrieve a near drowning victim Tuesday night.
Town of Sheridan Code Enforcement Official James Crowell, who was on-scene as a firefighter, said he was unable to determine whether the swimming pool met all state codes and regulations as he was assisting first responders at the time of the incident.
"Swimming pools deeper than 24 inches require a building permit. They must comply with New York State Building and Fire Codes," Crowell said. "Some of the rules and regulations include a pool alarm, possibly a fence or locking gate - some sort of restricted access, the electric has to be inspected to make sure it has ground fault protection, and the pool alarm has to be an approved pool alarm."
