The following poem was written for my friend, who has since passed away.
Now I feel that I can share It with you.
Friendship is Like Gold
By Elizabeth Baldwin
Friendship is like a piece of gold,
Polished and worn with pride.
Diamonds placed on it for honesty.
Without which it would never survive.
Rubies are beside them to show support.
Or our friendship could never be.
Red and beautiful as they are.
This stone could steal the scene.
Pearls looking so soft and white,
It is the best part of friendship.
Without the pearl it could not be.
Ah, emerald, green like springtime.
As in friendship, they reflect happiness.
For like the green on a flower,
So, the emerald accents our friendship.
Garnets are the color of fine wine,
Like fine wine, friendship,
Is better when aged.
So, let's toast to Aged Friendship.
What person would want a piece of coal,
To be worn upon a gold crown?
As it would spoil the beauty,
Just like a shadow on the ground
So, wear this crown of jewels,
Honesty, support, understanding, happiness,
And last but not least long friendship
As I cherish you as a friend.
