Not all able to enjoy holiday

September 16, 2011
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

Holidays, a time when one should be able to relax and enjoy themselves amongst family and friends as well as time off from work in most cases.

But do we all really enjoy these little slices of abnormality?

The answer is no. While the working stiff is happy to have a break, take the wife and kids to some fantastic destination or just lounge watching a game without a care in the world, the reality is that there are over 9,000 people alone in Chautauqua County who are dependent on a system that essentially shuts down for the holidays.

Many are on unemployment and the thought of holidays is no longer enjoyable for I know the money I am depending on will not be on time.

And it's not just people on unemployment, there are also those receiving Social Security or other relief pay that go forgotten in the event of a holiday.
