A conference for fiber artists and enthusiasts, the Eastern Great Lakes Fiber Conference, will be held at Chautauqua Institution Oct. 7 through 10. This conference is co-hosted by regional guilds: the Chautauqua County Weavers Guild, Cuyahoga Weavers Guild, Enchanted Mountain Weavers Guild, Foothills Spinner and Weavers Guild, Syracuse Weavers Guild, Weavers' Guild of Buffalo and Weavers' Guild of Rochester.
The theme of this year's conference is Handmade Remade, with workshops on weaving, tapestry, spinning, felting, art to wear, clothing construction, basketry, and mud cloth. Although registration is closed, vendors will be selling fibers and supplies Saturday, Oct. 8, from noon to 8 p.m. in the Turner Community Center at the Chautauqua Institution. Vendor Day is open to the public. Many products featured by these vendors are not typically available in this area. For sale will be fibers such as alpaca, hand dyed llama, roving, fleece, and fine threads and other yarns for knitting, weaving, tatting, lace work and spinning. Vendors also will be selling books and equipment such as spinning wheels, looms, tools for fiber arts, buttons and hand made items.
