Anointing of the Sick Mass planned
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Washington Avenue in Dunkirk, will have the yearly communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick on Saturday, Oct. 15, at an 11 a.m. Mass. Even for those not to be anointed with the sacrament, family members and friends are invited to attend and join in prayer for all those who will be anointed. Candidates for anointing include all those who are in their senior years of life; or those who are about to undergo surgery to correct a serious illness, or anyone with a serious illness.
If anyone needs transportation to and from the church, this can be arranged by phoning the rectory at 366-1750. There will be a committee of people to register those to be anointed at the entrances to the church. A nametag will be given to identify those who wish the anointing sacrament.
A luncheon will follow at the parish hall. Everyone is welcome.
St. John's holds anniversary party
St. John's United Church of Christ, 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk will celebrate its 155th anniversary with a special service on Sunday at the 11 a.m. church service. After the service, there will be a luncheon. Judy Sprague is making a cake for the celebration.
Rummage and bake sale set
MAYVILLE - The United Methodist Women will have a rummage and bake sale on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14 and 15, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The sale will be in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church, 81 South Erie St., Mayville. There will be plenty of parking and it is handicapped accessible.
Guest speaker featured at service
LILY DALE - The guest speaker at the Church of The Living Spirit's Sunday service is Alpha Husted. The 10:30 a.m. service at the Assembly Hall on Cleveland Avenue includes healing, meditation and messages.
Have authentic food at German Fest
St. John's United Church of Christ, 733 Central Ave., Dunkirk is holding a German Fest Saturday, Oct. 15. Come enjoy the Gemutichkelt of a hearty German pork and bratwurst dinner complete with a choice of some favorite desserts. Dinners are served 4 to 7 p.m. (or until sold out); take-outs are available. Tickets are: pre-sale adult, $9, $10 at door; child under 10, $5. Silent auction for theme baskets. Pre-sale tickets available at St. John's Church office, 366-0710, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Spaghetti dinner
The Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church will host a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. Along with spaghetti and meatballs, the dinner includes side salad, bread, dessert and beverage for a donation of $7. The church is located at Route 430 and Meadows Road in Dewittville.
Christmas craft show coming
STOCKTON - The Stockton Community Church is hosting its annual "Christmas Craft Show and Flea Market" on Friday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a goulash dinner on Saturday at noon which includes goulash, green beans, applesauce and bread.
