Government

Do as we say, not as we do

October 13, 2011
The OBSERVER

Debt collectors are prohibited from using "robo-calls" - that is, phone calls dialed automatically instead of by a human being - to cellular telephones. President Barack Obama does not want to change that.

But he is asking Congress to allow such robo-calls by those trying to collect debts for the government, such as overdue student loan payments.

Obama's proposal is yet another example of the arrogance of big government. The president seems to believe private enterprise should be regulated and taxed to death - but there should be few, if any, restraints on government.

Most Americans would agree that attitude is wrong. Congress should simply hang up on Obama regarding his proposal.
