After an informative in-service given by tutor Mary Margaret Fogarty entitled: "I Can Teach English," Literacy Volunteers Director Amanda Walden bestowed the 2011 Maddie Lefferts's award for outstanding tutor on this year's recipient, Eric Meringer. Meringer has helped a number of students to improve their conversational English in the last three years. His teaching is spontaneous and yet focused on the unique needs of his students.
Several LVCC tutors were on hand to congratulate Meringer's achievement and receive in-service certificates, including Dyan Noves, Joyce Haines, Ann Bowers, Mary Margaret Fogarty, Kate Mahoney, Ed Buckley, Nancy Stock, Faith Woolson, Janet Ferry, Molly Stock and Odette Hice, who was also recognized for her service to LVCC.
Literacy Volunteers is always looking to help those who need one-to-one tutoring in basic literacy, GED or ESL. Call the office at 366-4438 or visit www.lvoccread.org to learn more. LVCC is a United Way Agency.
