A comment on our ways

December 16, 2011
The OBSERVER

Editor, OBSERVER:

There was a letter in the OBSERVER last month. I have either grown up at the same time as the writer or at least have parallel views.

For years I have been wondering and complaining about the way drivers cut their corners, (police cars included). It may be the way they have been trained.

Have these drivers forgotten how to make square left-hand corners, which was how I was taught to drive? Also, the idea of centering your car with the center line in the middle of the road instead of keeping to the right hand edge of the road as I was taught with a large trucking company, does not make sense. People have told me they were taught this by driver trainers. Aiming at the center line, which brings you closer to oncoming traffic is a dangerous move. (What an idea!)

I consider myself quite liberal compared to a lot of people but there are times when we go too far trying to appease everyone; aliens with papers to enter this country have the right to be here. If we were to go to a country without proper papers, we would possibly be deported or jailed.

Why should there be a difference in the way illegal aliens are treated here? Why is our governor concerned about illegals being arrested? If they are not here legally, then why not send them home?

I don't understand what the Occupy Wall Street protesters are protesting either. The way I see it is that it is not exciting to watch a stock broker make a trade or a chief executive officer of a bank make a loan to a corporation, to create jobs or to loan money for a car. They are too mundane in their careers to be idols running 20 yards with a piece of pig.

I don't know what a Lady Gaga is, but it sounds like something my son said before he was a year old. Thanks to God they have matured over the years.

From an older man with older ideas.

DON CHAFFEE,

Sinclairville
