Journey participants give back

December 17, 2011
The OBSERVER

The parishioners of St. Joseph Parish have been busy with giving to others. At the December session of Journey, participants from preschool to adults wrapped almost 40 pillows and pillowcases for the cots used by the homeless at Willow Mission located at the First Methodist Church in Dunkirk. Also made were first aid kits for families who go to Willow Mission.

Not to forget the soldiers in Afghanistan, Christmas cards were made to be sent to them for the holidays. Parishioners donated two boxes of unused cards to be sent to the soldiers so they can send them to their families for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

The pillow and card projects were coordinated by Mary Jane Miga.

Another project that has been done for many years at St. Joseph Parish is the Angel Giving Tree organized by the youth group in conjunction with the Fredonia Child Development Center. The names of the children from infant to preschool age are placed on angels with the size of clothing or toys on it. Parishioners pick an angel from the tree and buy what is listed on it and return the unwrapped gifts. The youth of the parish wrap the presents and with the help of Santa Claus give the gifts to the children.

Judy Dankert and Robert and Lilly Rosas are the youth advisors.
